REFLECTION
Reflection is a manuscript composed of 12 chapters, 10 dreams and divided in two parts. Reflection is the genesis and the transversal structure of an ever-growing family tree of characters and places spread across all of my works. Reflection is thus both the beating heart of Kiral World and a compass for its navigation.
The manuscript is centered on the self-discovery journey of an anonymous nose (smell composer). The tale is centered on his stay at the curious “44 (66)” hotel, which is laced with a series of colorful character encounters and dream episodes that seem to slowly dissolve the barrier between the imaginary and the real.
Through fiction, Reflection traces a tribute to a series of artists and artworks, viewed through the lens of the work of Niki de Saint Phalle. Each character in the manuscript thus corresponds to a tarot card, in reference to her Tuscan Tarot Garden, as well as to an artwork or artist from our reality, such as Arthur Rimbaud, "The Butterfly Dream" by Chuang Tzu, Felix Gonzalez-Torres' Untitled (Perfect Lovers), Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party, the policeman numbered "223", in Chungking Express, an iconic film by director Wong Kar-Wai, Bô, a character from Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, the myth of the senet game between Konshu and Thot in Egyptian mythology, or Yoshitomo Nara's "puppy” character.
