SCAPES

Scapes is a series of kinetic sculptures examining our relationship to the future by uniting cosmic landscapes with landscapes of the mind. Based on historical cosmigraphics (maps of the cosmos) and pachinko (a Japanese gambling machine) references, these sculptures bind together astro/mind/e-scapes via two groups of layers of acrylic sheets — one that can be interacted with and one that remains frozen, as entrenched as the macro narratives shaping our contemporary vision of the future.

Scapes is an extension of the upcoming project “The Age of_.” The Age of_ is a research-based poetic spatial exploration that points a telescope at inclusive — as in feminist and not exclusively Western — historical cosmological imaginaries, pachinko machines, and physics theories that, when woven together, form the material of a video installation centered on examining our contemporary imaginaries of the future.
